Series I. Reports
Scope and Contents
The collection has eight series: Reports, Financial Records, Administrative Records, Subject Files, Correspondence, Clippings, Maps and Media. The first series, Reports (1915-1973) include periodic reports from City departments: Health, Treasurer, Veterinarian, Street and Bridge, Water, Light and Sewer, Community Ethnic Relations and the Mayor's office. There are also independent reports on the Texas Interurban Railway Company and Community Natural Gas Company. Series II, Financial Records (1892-1973), consists of city budgets, bond records, stock certificates of the Denton Water, Light and Power Company, and property and tax records. Series III, Administrative Records (1915-1960), consists of records of claims against the city, contracts and appointments, and mayoral proclamations and resolutions. Series IV, Subject Files (1927-1952), consists of records pertaining to the establishment and administration of Flow Memorial Hospital and contracts and clippings pertaining to the Denton Municipal Building (1927), which is now called City Hall West. There is also a list of items that were deposited into the cornerstone of City Hall West during its construction. Series V, Correspondence (1914-1954), consists of letters from individuals and institutions to City of Denton officials including the Brown-Crummer Company and the Comptroller of the State of Texas regarding construction bonds, Texas National Guard regarding troop conditions as well as letters from various entities pertaining to zoning petitions and disputes and the potential construction of a Liquified Petroleum Gas Station on the corner of Malone and State Highway 24, now US Route 380. Series VI, Clippings (1963-1966), consists of City Council reports as published in the Denton Record Chronicle as well as other items of unknown context. Series VII, Maps (Undated), consists of a map titled "Key Map to Assessor's Block Numbers" which details the City of Denton prior to the construction of Quakertown Park. Series VIII, Media (Undated), consists of a compact disc which contains digitized photos of scenes in Denton's history.
