Abstract The Denton Centennial collection contains scrapbooks, programs, photographs, memorabilia, and 8mm color film about the planning, celebration, and reception of Denton's Centennial Celebration in April 1957. The photographs and film of the parade were made April 22, 1957. The scrapbooks contain some materials, such as photos and newspaper articles, dated before 1957, but the scrapbooks themselves were created in 1957. Abstract The first library in Denton was housed in what is now the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum, from 1935 to 1949 when a new building was erected that is now the current location of the Emily Fowler Central Library. That building was renovated and expanded in 1968, then again in 1980s and yet again in 2005. Abstract The Economic Development Collection contains the historical background and involvement of the Main Street Program, Sister Cities International, and other international programs between 1966 and 2012. Its assistance to the City of Denton includes the improvements of local businesses and presevation of historic structures with the assistance of the Denton Historical Commission and the Texas Landmark Commission.

Abstract Maps of Additions and Subdivisions to the City of Denton including final plats, replats, draft plats and conveyance plats. These maps illustrate the history and growth of the City of Denton from changing neighborhood names to businesses that are no longer in operation. They illustrate how the City looked and was developed dating back to 1878. The Engineering Design section currently uses these maps to facilitate projects as part of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
